RESOLUTION TO CALL UPON THE COMMISSIONER OF THE CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO TESTIFY BEFORE THE COMMITTEE ON TRANSPORTATION AND PUBLIC WAY
Whereas, the City of Chicago is legally obligated to maintain thousands of miles of City owned infrastructure on the public right of way; and
Whereas, a significant portion of the City's right of way is comprised of vaulted sidewalks which are occupied and should be maintained by private entities; and
Whereas, privately occupied vaulted sidewalks are often improperly maintained and require repair; and
Whereas, improperly maintained infrastructure could expose the City to legal action and financial liability;
Be It Resolved, that we call upon the Commissioner of the Department of Transportation to appear before the Committee on Transportation and Public Way to testify regarding the process of evaluating infrastructure repair requests on the public right of way to minimize safety issues and legal exposure; and
Be It Further Resolved, that the Committee Hearing will occur before the 2019 Budget Hearings commence.
