MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR PAUL READY

WHEREAS, The Members of this Chamber desire to honor the life of Paul Ready, who passed away in April 2019; and

WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by the Honorable James M. Gardiner, Alderman ofthe 45th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Paul and his wife, Jill, lived in the Jefferson Park neighborhood for over 25 years, where they raised their four children in a two-bedroom, one-bath three-flat; and

WHEREAS, The Ready home on Wilson Avenue became a home to many over the years; and

WHEREAS, Local residents witnessed Paul's love and devotion to his children firsthand, taking care of the kids while Jill was running Gale Street Inn as the General Manager, where she still works today; and

WHEREAS, Being an Irish Catholic family, Ready social events were always the best time, filled with laughter and love, with Paul at the heart of it all; and

WHEREAS, Whether he was talking to one of his 11 siblings, nieces and nephews, or great nieces and nephews, Paul brought everyone together, carrying on conversations with the 60 year-olds to the 1 year-olds, alike; and

WHEREAS, A city worker by day and a bartender by night, Paul worked as a hoisting engineer for the Department of Streets and Sanitation for 33 years as a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150; and

WHEREAS, Over 500 people, including over 200 current and former City employees, gathered among Paul's family to say goodbye to their friend, telling tales of days on the job, how Paul was "the best anyone could get", and celebrating Paul with laughs, tears, and a few drinks in his honor, proving that even years after the job ended, he touched the lives of so many; and

WHEREAS, Paul was a beloved husband of Jill (nee O'Brock); loving father of Joshua (Missy), Lindsay (Richard) Schillen, Caraley (Jorge) Villagomez, and Maggie (Thomas) Browne; proud and cherished "Buddy" to Sean, Joseph, Ryan, and Vivian; dear brother of Mary Jo (Tom) Mack, John (Maureen), Jane (Frank) Savastano, Nancy Dickerson, Carol (Paul) Rezmer, Pat (Tink) Cronin, and the late Jim (Bobbie), Jerry, Richard, and Bob (Cindy); fond uncle and great uncle of many; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this fifteenth day of January 2020, do hereby extend our most heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Paul Ready; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Paul Ready as a sign ofour honor, gratitude, and respect.
