RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING JOHNNY L. CAVERS ON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT

 

WHEREAS, Johnny L. Cavers, esteemed police officer and 34th Ward resident, will retire from the Chicago Police Department on March 13, 2020, after 29 years of distinguished service; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this momentous occasion by the Honorable Carrie M. Austin, Alderman of the 34th Ward; and

 

WHEREAS, Officer Cavers began his career on February 27, 1991, as a probationary officer in the Auburn Gresham 006th District before serving in the Public Housing South Unit, the Prairie 021st District, the Target Response Unit, and the Wentworth 002nd District; and

 

WHEREAS, For the past five years, Officer Cavers has been assigned to Unit 543, the Office of the Mayor and City Council, to provide security and dignitary protection for City elected officials and the administrations of former Mayor Rahm Emanuel and current Mayor Lori Lightfoot; and

 

WHEREAS, In all of the positions he has held, Officer Cavers has consistently demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, an innate gift for conflict management, unsurpassed knowledge of security issues, unwavering professionalism, and a commitment to upholding ethical standards; and

 

WHEREAS, Over the course of his illustrious career, Officer Cavers has received numerous awards and honors recognizing his outstanding service, including the Crime Reduction Ribbon in 2004 and 2009, the Presidential Election Award, the NATO Summit Service Award, the Democratic Convention Award, the Deployment Operations Center Award, the Unit Meritorious Performance Award, the Life Saving Award, the Appearance Bar, the Fitness Award, Department Commendation awards, numerous Honorable Mention Ribbon awards, several Attendance Recognition awards, and multiple complimentary letters; and

WHEREAS, Officer Cavers has dedicated his career to serving his City, and has proved himself to be a valuable asset to the Department, earning the respect of his peers, colleagues, and the public along the way; now therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this eighteenth day of March, 2020, do hereby congratulate Officer L. Cavers (Star # 6960) on his retirement, and express our heartfelt gratitude for his 29 years of exemplary service to the residents of Chicago, and extend to him our best wishes for continued health, happiness, prosperity, and much success in his next chapter; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be prepared and presented to the Johnny L. Cavers as a sign of gratitude and respect.
