RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, Mario Ernesto Araujo has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 49; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

c

WHEREAS, Mario is survived by his mom, Maria, family, and his brothers and sisters ofthe Chicago Fire Department ("CFD"); and

 

WHEREAS, Mario was born on March 1,1970 in San Salvador, El Salvador; and

 

WHEREAS, Mario began high school at Saint Benedict and graduated from Saint Gregory High School, attended West Side Tech College for a year, but eventually joined the CFD on October 2003; and

 

WHEREAS, Firefighter Araujo spent most of his CFD career on Truck 25, which operates out of Engine 102 in Rogers Park on the North Side of Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, Firefighter Araujo died on April 7, 2020 after a battle with the Coronavirus and is the first member of the fire department to die of COVID-19; and

 

WHEREAS, This tragic loss underscores the seriousness that we face as a city and a.nation; and

 

WHEREAS, CFD members put themselves in harm's way without hesitation to selflessly uphold the oath they took to be there for every person they encounter during an emergency situation; and

 

WHEREAS, Firefighter Araujo's service to the City of Chicago will never be forgotten; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Firefighter Mario Ernesto Araujo imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members ofthe Chicago City Council, assembled this twentieth day of May, 2020, do hereby commemorate Firefighter Mario Ernesto Araujo for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mario Enesto Araujo.
