RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING HILLARD DOMINOWSKI ON HIS 99TH BIRTHDAY
WHEREAS, Hillard Dominowski, loving father and esteemed WWII veteran, celebrated the joyous occasion of his 99th birthday on May 6, 2020; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this milestone by the Honorable James Gardiner, Alderman of the 45th Ward; and
WHEREAS, After growing up in the City, Hillard was drafted into the US Army during WWII at age 22, Hillard was captured by the Nazis and spent months in a prisoner of war camp with other American soldiers until his release; and
WHEREAS, Hillard married his wife Eleanor after returning home from service, and together they raised four children, Joan, Jane, Hillard, and the late Michael; they were married for 65 years, until Eleanor's passing in 2013; and
WHEREAS, In the late 1940s, Hillard and Eleanor started their family in a small home in Wicker Park in the same neighborhood where Hillard and Eleanor grew up, and moved to a house in Jefferson Park in the 1950s where Hillard currently resides; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong Chicago Park District Employee, Hillard is filled with exciting stories of his career he still shares today including the time he was part of the snowplow crew working on Lake Shore Drive during the Chicago Blizzard of 1967; and
WHEREAS, An avid fisherman, Hillard bought himself a new boat for his 85th birthday, and when his wife Eleanor asked what an 85-year-old needed a boat for, Hillard responded "TO FISH!"; and
WHEREAS, Hillard loves HO scale model trains and enjoys his weekly card game in Portage Park; he has kept himself busy during the pandemic by building scale model trains and playing cards daily with his eldest daughter; and
WHEREAS, The City is Hillard's heart, and he is a lover of all things Chicago; he waited 95 years to see the Cubs win the World Series and is always happy to watch their games on television; and
WHEREAS, Hillard will never say no to a bowl of soup, and still looks great at 99 years of age...
