RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Daniel Jesse Marquez, has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 92; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Daniel is survived by his sons Daniel, Dave, and Dean, his daughters, Donna and Deanna Jobe, his brothers, John Marquez and Benjamin Marquez, his sisters, Guadalupe "Pupa", Gloria Mendez, and Teresa Sauseda, his sister-in-law Jane his son-in-law Mark, his daughter-in-laws Maria, Ellen, Marianne and Michelle, 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Daniel was born December 8,1927 to Daniel and Soledad Marquez in Chicago, Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Daniel graduated from Tilden Technical High School and later became a successful boxer and was a Golden Gloves champion; and

WHEREAS, In 1946, Daniel went on to serve as a member of the United States Army and was a member ofthe 11th Airborne Division and served in occupied Japan; and

WHEREAS, Daniel became the welterweight All-Army Boxing Champion; and

WHEREAS, Daniel was a prominent leader in the Back ofthe Yards Neighborhood and was a founder of the Berean Bible Mission at 45th Street and Ashland Avenue, was a member ofthe Mary McDowell Settlement House, and was involved with the Byrnes-Wagner Little League; and

WHEREAS, Daniel worked for People's Gas for 20 years, as well as the Chicago Park District; and

WHEREAS, Daniel was a member ofthe 14th Ward Democratic Organization and a Precinct Captain for over 30 years; and

WHEREAS, Daniel enjoyed being with his family, attending Church, watching Westerns and boxing, reading the Sun-Times, reading the Bible, singing in the church choir, and loved his wife's cooking; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Daniel Jesse Marquez imparts a legacy of generosity, compassion, devotion to family and unwavering faith in God; now, therefore
