RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Honorable Dorothy Kirie Kinnaird has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 70; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy is survived by her devoted husband, Burke Kinnaird, son James Burke Kinnaird, daughter Katherine Anne Kirie Kinnaird, sister Barbara Kirie Stewart and a multitude of close relatives and very dear friends; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy was born August 31,1949 to James and Lily Kirie; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy graduated from DePaul University College of Law in 1974, joining the Cook County's State's Attorney's office; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy then went into private practice, forming a law firm with her husband in 1978 while serving as village attorney for the Village of Franklin Park and also taught law for a few years at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy chaired the Young Lawyers Section ofthe Chicago Bar Association in 1981-1982, and served as CBA secretary in 1985-1987, where she was the second woman ever to serve as a CBA officer; and

WHEREAS, In 1991, Dorothy was appointed to the Circuit Court by the Illinois Supreme Court and elected to a full term in 1992; and

WHEREAS, In 1994, Dorothy was assigned to the Chancery Division, and became the presiding judge in 2002; and

WHEREAS, In 2010, Dorothy retired from the bench and continued her involvement with the Chicago Bar Foundation and other mediation and legal aid organizations; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy led a group of partners and stakeholders, including the Chicago Bar Foundation, in the development and launch ofthe Circuit Court's Mortgage Foreclosure Mediation Program; and

WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Dorothy Kirie Kinnaird imparts a legacy of integrity, friendship, and passion for justice; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members ofthe Chicago City Council, assembled this Twenty-second day of July, 2020, do hereby commemorate Dorothy...
