Resolution
WHEREAS, on July 16, 2020 the 25th Ward Alderman's office held a community forum to seek feedback on pressing issues in the community, focusing specifically on issues impacting different communities within the ward; and
WHEREAS, Pilsen residents identified issues related to affordability, housing, environmental justice, and community representation; and
WHEREAS, under Illinois state law, the City of Chicago City Council may, by ordinance or resolution, initiate an advisory referendum on questions of public policy under 10 ILCS 5/28-6(b) and 65 ILCS 5/3.1-40-60; and
WHEREAS, such questions may be submitted to all voters of a contiguous territory by the governing body of that subdivision;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that pursuant to Section 28-6 of the Illinois Election Code (10 ILCS 5/28-6) and Section 3.1-40-60 ofthe Illinois Municipal Code (65 ILCS 5/3.1-40-60), the following questions are certified to the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners for submission to the voters of precincts 1, 2, 7, 5, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 15, 17, 19, 22, 23, 24, 26, 28, and 30 within the 25th Ward ofthe City of Chicago at the regularly scheduled election occurring after the passage of this resolution, November 3, 2020:
Shall the vacant land on the southeast corner at 18th and Peoria be used to develop affordable housing?
Yes No
Shall the City of Chicago be required to halt any new polluting or diesel generating industries trying to enter the industrial corridors in the 25th Ward in favor of attracting and prioritizing green and non-polluting industries?
Yes No
Shall the Pilsen neighborhood be redistricted so that all of Pilsen is preserved in one ward?
Yes No
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be filed with the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners.
