RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING CECILIA PIERCE ON HER RETIREMENT FROM THE OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK.
WHEREAS, Cecilia "Ceci" Pierce, a longtime public servant with the City of Chicago, is retiring on August 31, 2020, after more than two decades of dedicated service to the people of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this milestone by the Honorable Anna M. Valencia, City Clerk; and
WHEREAS, A native of Chicago's South Side, Ceci was born and raised in the South Shore community and is a faithful member of the Sweet Holy Spirit Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, Ceci is the loving daughter of Elmer and Olivia, the devoted sister of JoRachel, Elmer, Dale, John and William and the proud mother of Camille; and
WHEREAS, Ceci attended Horace Mann Elementary School and South Shore High School and received her bachelor's degree in business administration from Augustana College; and
WHEREAS, Ceci began her career with the City of Chicago as a contract employee in August 1988 and on April 2, 1990 she became a full-time employee serving as a Legislative Assistant II with the City Council Division of the Office of the City Clerk. After leaving the City Clerk's Office on May 30, 1997 to pursue other opportunities, Ceci returned to the City Council Division on November 3, 2003 as a Proofreader where she helped compile and prepare information to be included in the official legislative record and printed in the Journal of Proceedings ofthe City Council ofthe City of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Taking on increasingly more challenging responsibilities, Ceci worked closely with Aldermen and City Council Committee staff to improve operational efficiencies. Her hard work and commitment soon earned her a promotion to the position of Editorial Assistant; and
WHEREAS, A vital and dedicated team member, Ceci was frequently called upon to work late evenings and weekends to ensure that the office faithfully fulfilled its legally mandated responsibility as the official record-keeper for the Chicago City Council; and
WHEREAS, Ceci's wealth of knowledge quickly distinguished her as the "go-to" person on a variety of legislative subject matters and her hard work, integrity and dedication serve and an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her many years of faithful service with the City Council Division, Ceci has been an exemplary employee who has earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this ninth day of September, 2020, do hereby honor and express our deepest appreciation to Cecilia Pierce for her outstanding service to the City of Chicago and extend to her our very best wishes for a wonderful retirement, continued happiness and good fortune; and
