RESOLUTION CALLING FOR HEARINGS ON CHICAGO BUSINESS TRAVEL

 

WHEREAS, Chicago has long been considered a hub for business travel; and,

 

WHEREAS, Our central location and wide array of amenities led to a banner year for business travel which included over 30 million overnight travelers and an economic impact exceeding $16 billion; and,

 

WHEREAS, Our tourism, hospitality and meetings industry created over 150,000 jobs for Chicagoans from all 50 Wards; and,

 

WHEREAS, Few industries have been hit harder by the COVID-19 pandemic with Chicago especially vulnerable due to its great number of large conventions and events; and,

 

WHEREAS, The City of Chicago should begin to act and prepare now for life after the Coronavirus; and,

 

WHEREAS, Accordingly, The Chicago City Council Committee on Economic, Capital and Technology Development and its members are focused on helping all Chicagoans recover from the economic disaster caused by COVID-19; and,

 

WHEREAS, The recovery ofthe tourism, hospitality and meetings industries is one ofthe best ways to assure our economy will recover in 2021; therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, That the Chicago City Council Committee on Economic, Capital and Technology Development shall hold public hearings on post-COVID-19 recovery efforts within the tourism, hospitality and meetings industries; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That these public hearings shall be held in front of members ofthe Chicago City Council Committee on Economic, Capital and Technology before the end of 2020; and

Gilbert Villegas Alderman, 36th Ward

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That members ofthe Committee on Economic, Capital and Technology continue to work together to help Chicago and all its industries recover.
