A resolution honoring Fiesta Mexicans in Chicago's Uptown Neighborhood and declaring October 31, 2020 "Fiesta Mexicana Day" in the City of Chicago.
WHEREAS, our Chicago City Council recognizes the extraordinary challenges facingthe restaurant industry in the wake ofthe COVID pandemic; and
WHEREAS, we honorthose restaurants which are both providing valuable jobs and giving back tothe communitiestheyserved in these difficulttimes; and
WHEREAS, Fiesta Mexicana, located at 4806 N. Broadway in Chicago's Uptown Neighborhood, opened in 1979 and is the oldest continually operating restaurant in Uptownandin the 46th
Ward; and
WHEREAS, Fiesta Mexicana has been family owned and woman operated forall of those 41 years, beingfounded by Peruvian immigrant Lucy Matthew and now managed by her daughterTania D'Agostino;and
WHEREAS, Fiesta Mexicana Founder Lucy Matthew was a community philanthropist who provided financial supportforcountless individuals to pursue education, entrepreneurship, home-ownership and the American Dream; and
WHEREAS, in 2015 Lucy Matthew received the nationalTumi USA award for herentrepreneurism and herservice to the community; and
WHEREAS, Tania D'Agostino, following her mother's example, partnered with NeighborFoodMeals.orgtokeep Fiesta Mexicana employing 90% of its workers during the COVID pandemicand providing meals to Chicagoans that are food insecurejand
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor, and Members of the City Council ofthe City of Chicago, assembled this 7th Day of October2020, do hereby express our profound gratitude to Fiesta Mexicana for its contributions to the community; and
