CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO SERGEANT SHERELL D. SPARKS ON HER RETIREMENT FROM THE CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT

WHEREAS, On June 15, 2020, Sergeant Sherell D. Sparks retired from the Chicago Police Department following 24 years of dedicated public service; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this occasion by the Honorable Derrick G. Curtis, Alderman ofthe 18th Ward and former Chairman ofthe Chicago Police Memorial Foundation; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Sparks, Star #2283, began her illustrious career with the Chicago Police Department on December 4, 1995, and retired as a valued member ofthe 6th District; her presence will be sorely missed; and

WHEREAS, Dedication to and fulfillment ofthe motto ofthe Chicago Police Department -"We Serve and Protect" - exacts a substantial physical and emotional toll not only on the officers who must daily cope with the stress and danger of putting their lives on the line for countless City residents, but also on their family members; and

WHEREAS, Throughout her long and distinguished tenure, Sergeant Sherell Sparks upheld the finest traditions of the law enforcement community, and her hard work, commitment, and dedication to duty earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and the communities she protected; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Sherell D. Sparks devoted 24 years of her life to public service to the people of the City of Chicago, and, in doing so, has personally ensured that the City of Chicago is the safe, healthy, and vibrant community it is today; and

WHEREAS, The leaders of the City of Chicago want to recognize the great debt owed to our public servants, and extend our sincerest gratitude to the long and prolific career of Sergeant Sherell D. Sparks; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this twenty-third day of November, 2020, do hereby express our gratitude for 24 years of work in service to the people of the City of Chicago, and express our heartiest wishes on a pleasant retirement to Sherell Sparks; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Sergeant Sherell D. Sparks.
