RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Patrick}. Harney has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 62; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Patrick is survived by his wife, Mary Jo, his son Jim and daughter Lizzie, his brothers Tim (Patricia) and Jim, his sisters Kathryn (Jack), Anne, and Rosemary (Doug); and
WHEREAS, Patrick was born and raised in the south side of Chicago, and attended Marquette University in Wisconsin where he received a Bachelor's of Science in , Engineering, and a Master's in Business Administration; and
WHEREAS, Patrick dedicated his life to public service working for the city he loved, in the areas of civil engineering and budgeting; and
WHEREAS, In 2000, he began his government career as the First Deputy Commissioner of Aviation; and
WHEREAS, On October 2006, Patrick was appointed as Executive Vice President of the Chicago Transit Authority; and
WHEREAS, Patrick was eventually appointed as First Deputy Chief of Staff at the Department of Fleet Management, eventually becoming Commissioner in February 2011; and
WHEREAS, Patrick ended his City career as First Deputy Commissioner at the Chicago Department of Transportation, and joined Collins Engineers in October 2014 as the Senior Vice President; and
WHEREAS, Patrick was a parishioner and a volunteer in social services at Old St. Patrick's Church for the past thirty-four years; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Patrick J. Harney imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-fourth day of February, 2021, do hereby commemorate Patrick J. Harney for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Patrick J. Harney.
