RESOLUTION HONORING ALI KHAN, MP

 

 

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Ali Khan has already distinguished himself among his peers early in his career, and is especially well-known for his work with organizations that address inequalities in healthcare among disadvantaged communities; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Khan is now the Executive Medical Director of Oak Street Health for the states of Illinois, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas, including ten centers in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, Belmont Cragin had among the highest rate of COVID-19 cases in any neighborhood in the City of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Khan's leadership has lead to a partnership between Oak Street Health and the City of Chicago to help distribute vaccines to the communities that have been most affected by COVID-19, including Belmont Cragin; and

WHEREAS, Due to the same leadership Oak Street Health provided staff to deliver the vaccines and volunteers to help organize mass-vaccination events, including one in Belmont Cragin held at Steinmetz College Prep; and

WHEREAS, Over 10,000 residents have received the first dose ofthe vaccine in Belmont Cragin, far surpassing the initial goal of 8,000 first doses administered; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Khan continues to not only set the example, but also raise the bar for all healthcare workers, showing that medicine can be equitable and compassionate; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of Chicago, assembled on this twenty-fourth day of March, 2021 do hereby honor Dr. Ali Khan for his efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 throughout Chicago and beyond; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Dr. Khan as a token of our respect and of our best wishes for continued success.
