CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO PRESIDENT ALAN W. CRAMB ON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE ILLINOIS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
WHEREAS, Alan W. Cramb will retire as the ninth President of the Illinois Institute of Technology on May 31, 2021; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council had been informed of President Cramb's upcoming retirement by the Honorable Alderman Pat Dowell, Alderman of the 3rd Ward; and

WHEREAS, President Cramb assumed the office of President in 2015 after serving as Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs of Illinois Tech since 2008; and

WHEREAS, During President Cramb's esteemed tenure, he increased undergraduate student enrollment, achieved fiscal stability for the future of Illinois Tech, and successfully led the university through the pandemic, ensuring that all students could graduate on time; and

WHEREAS, A dedicated and highly experienced leader in the field of education, President Cramb previously served as the Dean of Engineering and the John A. Clark and Edward T. Crossan Professor of Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; and
WHEREAS, A native of Saltcoats, Scotland, President Cramb earned his bachelor's degree in metallurgy from the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow, Scotland) in 1975 and his Ph.D. in materials science from the University of Pennsylvania in 1979; and
WHEREAS, President Cramb is a distinguished member and fellow of the Association for Iron & Steel Technology; the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers; ASM International; the American Association for the Advancement of Science; the Iron and Steel Institute of Japan; and the National Academy of Inventors; and was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2014; and

WHEREAS, The author of more than 200 publications and the holder of two United States patents, President Cramb was awarded the Bessemer Gold Medal by the Institute of Materials, Minerals, and Mining in 2016; and
