SUBSITITUE ORDINANCE
WHEREAS,, Jack "Rbsey" Rosenberg, spent a career In journalism'ana* media beginning at the age of 16 at the Pekin Daily Times, followed by a stint in Peoria, before finally arriving in Chicago at WGN; and
WHEREAS, Rosenberg began working in Chicago at WGN Radio and Television in January 1954, and until 1999, was a significant member of the WGN sports, department, where he was a producer, news writer, and sp.ortsi.editor; and
WHEREAS; Rosenberg was a pioneer in modern sports production and broadcast, and is credited with its development;, and
WHEREAS, Legendary sports voices, including Jack Brickhouse, Vince Lloyd, Lou Boudreau, JackQuinlan, Irv Kupcinet, and Harry Garay. were amongst the colleagues with whom •Rosenberg worked side-by-slde; and
WHEREAS, 'Rosenberg's career was most closely connected with that of Jack Brickhouse - it was' the power of Rosenberg's pen that crafted the broadcaster's storylines and newscasts, .including Jack BrickhoUse's. Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame induction speech in 1983; and
WHEREAS, Rosenberg arranged interviews with Presidents John F. Kennedy and Ronald; Reagan- Vince Lloyd's, interview of President.Kennedy, set up by Rosenberg, was the first time a. sitting' president had ever been interviewed live at a Major League Baseball =game; and
WHEREAS, In 1962, Rosenberg was part of the first trans-Atlantic telecast when a ballgame between the Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies at Wrigley Field was broadcast in Europe; and
WHEREAS, While Rosenberg himself was rarely heard on-air, the. click-clack of Rosey's portable typewriter in the background'during Cubs broadcasts on WGN was the soundtrack of the summer; -. and
WHEREAS, Rosey's long career encompassed a "who's who" of sports and national figures, and he was a walking encyclopedia of Chicago's sports teams and how WGN covered them; and
WHEREAS, Rosey was honored with multiple awards, including honors by the Chicago/Midwest chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts &; Sciences and the Illinois Broadcasters Association, and was recognizedfor his philanthropy by Swedish Covenant Hospital; and
WHEREAS, Jack Rosenberg died on December 26, 2020, at the age of 94; now, therefore BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO-SECTION 1. Pursuant to Section 2-8-040 .of the Municipal Code of Chicago, which permits the erection of honorary street-name designations, the Commissioner of Transportation shall take all necessary action for standardization of North Cityfront Plaza Drive, from Illinois Street to E. North Water Street: as "Jack. Rosenberg; Way:"
