ORDINANCE

 

WHEREAS, City of Chicago Alderman are elected by Chicago residents to serve the needs of the wards they represent; and,

 

WHEREAS, the City of Chicago ("the City") and the local Aldermen should work together to share information about local matters; and

 

WHEREAS, in order to best serve residents and the local community, Aldermen should be kept informed of any and all permits issued by the City or one of its departments to residents or business owners in their wards; and

 

WHEREAS, Aldermen should also be kept informed of any and all lawsuits filed against the City by a resident or business owner in their ward; now therefore

 

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO:

 

SECTION 1. Permits

The City of Chicago shall require that any City department issuing a permit to a resident or business notify the local Alderman by written correspondence within 10 business days of a permit being issued.

 

 

SECTION 2. Lawsuits

The City of Chicago Law Department shall be required to notify the local Alderman to all lawsuits filed against the City by a resident of their ward, or a local business located in their ward by written correspondence within 10 business days of receiving the filing.

 

 

SECTION 3. Severability

If any provision of this ordinance shall be held to be invalid or unenforceable for any reason, the invalidity or unenforceability of such provision shall not affect any of the other provisions of this ordinance.

 

SECTION 4. Conflicts

All ordinances, resolutions, motions or orders in conflict with this ordinance are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict.

 

SECTION 5. Effective Date

This ordinance shall take effect upon its passage and approval.
