RESOLUHflM


WHEREAS, according to the Chicago Tribune, as of May 19, 2021, this year, there have been 1,209 people shot in the City of Chicago, 250 more than 2020; and,

WHEREAS, according to the Chicago Sun-Tirhes, the Chicago Police Department, the second largest police department in the country, is expecting 560 retirements in 2021, a 30% increase: from last year, at a time when Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot eliminated 614 vacant police officer positions from her 2021 budget; arid,

WHEREAS, in these unprecedented and dangerous times, the Members of the City Council of the Gity of Chicago must show leadership, in directly addressing the safety and security of every person in Chicago, residents and visitors alike; and,

WHEREAS, the Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago recognize the value of and reliance on technology by the Chicago Police Department! in managing its crime fighting operations as looming personnel shortages advance on the horizon; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago do hereby call upon the Committee on Public Safety to hold hearings: examining the success of the following technologies: !<:
o Fixed & Mobile Automatic License Plate Readers
o AXON Body Worn Cameras
o CLEARNET Overtime Reporting System
o CLEARMAP Incident Reporting System
o COBAN In-car Cameras
o Genetec's Strategic Decision Support System - Citigraf o HunchLab Predictive Technology

o 9-1-1 Center CAD Dispatching System o Operation Virtual5Shield o ShotSpotter ,
o All other internal information gathering applications not herein mentioned specifically
