RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Chief Kenton Rainey has served in law enforcement for forty-two (42) years, and served four (4) years with the University of Chicago Police Department; and

WHEREAS, Chief Kenton Rainey achieved dual accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) and the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA); and

WHEREAS, Chief Kenton Rainey worked to adopt many of the recommendations of President Barack Opama's Task Force on 21st Century Policing; and

WHEREAS, Chief Kenton Rainey was in charge of the University Police Department -one of the few in the country that established a League Chapter with the goal of improving relationships with police and local community youth groups; and

WHEREAS, Chief Kenton Rainey is responsible for the Implementation of Center of Police Psychological Services (COPPS) and the Policing Structure (PSA); and

WHEREAS, Chief Kenton Rainey experienced thelowest reported rate of robberies in the last forty (40) years within the University of Chicago Police Department patrol are; and

WHEREAS, Chief Kenton Rainey established Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) and the Monthly Bias Sync Training for all personnel; and

WHEREAS, Chief Kenton Rainey established the Integrating Communications Assessment and Tactics (ICAT) for all sworn personnel; and

WHEREAS, Chief Kenton Rainey was responsible for less than lethal force options, Taser and bean bag shotguns; and

WHEREAS, Chief Kenton Rainey established the Threat Assessment Office position;

and

WHEREAS, Chief Kenton Rainey increased internal communication through weekly distribution of Command Staff minutes; and

WHEREAS, Chief Kenton Rainey was responsible for the implementation of an Honor Guard Unit.

NOW THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED that we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this _J^L_ day of June, 2021, do hereby honor the community service of CHIEF KENTON RAINEY, and extend our congratulations on his Retirement, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that suitable copies of this Resolution be presented to CHIEF KENTON RAINEY as a sign of our good wishe^ y
