CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF AN EXTRAORDINARY MAN MR. WILBURT KEYS

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Wilburt Keys was called home by the Great I AM, "Come for I have prepared a place specifically for thee, a mansion the size of a nation where your soul willfind sweet rest. As you enter into your new humble abode, you will find rooms designed with photographs of your favorite musical artists and every life that you have touched. " Instantaneously, tears began to stream down his face as his soul connected with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The Angels and his beautiful wife, Mrs. DeElla B. Keys stood by Heaven's Gate shouting, "Glory to God he made it home!"

 

WHEREAS, he was a man that was determined to lead his household by faith and always stood flat-footed on the principles of integrity. Mr. Wilburt Keys was a visionary, he fought daily against the injustices of people and spent quality time with the youth within the community without being asked. He was an amazing Block Club President, Husband, Father, Grandfather and Constituent whose work and friendship will be admired for years to come; and

 

WHEREAS, some people will remember Mr. Wilburt Keys for his charming personality and delectable meals. While, so many others recognized the calling on his life and took great pride in sitting under his wise counsel. Mr. Keys was a true historian and he was never ashamed to share the rich history of the African-American culture and the ways paved by many of our ancestors from years past; and

 

WHEREAS, the bible says, "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord." Without a shadow of a doubt in my mind, I know Mr. Wilburt Keys lived his life by faith and never by sight. Whenever life threw him a few tough blows, maybe even cost him some sleepless nights, no matter the difficulties, he gave God the Glory. Mr. Keys was a true prayer warrior. He was known for exemplifying the life of a bold and courageous soldier and one that was not afraid of invading the enemy's camp to draw people to the Lord in his own unique and gifted ways. Today, we can all attest to the fact that he served in every capacity with a true spirit of excellence; and

 

WHEREAS, today, let us not say good-bye but instead stand together and say, Lord we are grateful for your presence in the midst of our tears and deep-rooted sorrow. We desire nothing more than to give you praise for the life of Mr. Wilburt Keys. Lord show us how to love you more each day and follow your instructions as Mr. Keys showed us through his own life. Though, we wished and prayed that this day would not exist, we have an assurance that one day we shall meet him again; and

BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, will gather together on 23rd Day of June 2021 A.D., and send their sincere condolences to his devoted daughters: Moriyon Hargett, Karen Yancey, and Denetrice (William) Sercye, and a host grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and neighbors of the 8700 block of South Bishop Street; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented at a later date to the family of Mr. Wilburt Keys.
