WHEREAS, Senate Bill 1565 ("SB 1565") is a bill currently in the Illinois State Legislature that would create a voter registration affidavit that shall be the exclusive means by which a noncitizen of the United States may register to vote in school board elections; and,

 

WHEREAS, SB 1565 provides that the elections conducted under the provisions are considered non-State elections and are not subject to the citizenship requirement in the Illinois Constitution; and,

 

WHEREAS, SB 1565 also provides for: what the individual shall attest to in the voter registration affidavit; that the voter registration affidavit shall be valid for one school board election; and for the notice that shall appear in the voter registration affidavit;

NOW THEREFORE IT BE RESOLVED by the City of Chicago that the City of Chicago supports the passage of SB 1565 by the Illinois State Legislature and urges that the bill becomes law in Illinois, and therefore in the City of Chicago.
