RESOLUTION CALLING FOR HEARINGS ON CURRENTLY AVAILABLE PROPHYLAXIS AGAINST THE SPREAD OF COVID-19 AND FUTURE PANDEMICS

 

 

WHEREAS the COVID-19 virus has infected almost 30,000 Chicago residents and brought about the deaths of more than 5,000 of its citizens to date; and

 

WHEREAS the healthcare industry's response to this ongoing pandemic has been both robust and prolific. Many prophylactic products and services have been developed specifically to address the spread of this insidious infection.

 

WHEREAS, since the City of Chicago has legislative and regulatory authority over numerous public buildings, spaces, and ports of entry, it behooves this body to actively investigate the application of such products and services; now therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED that a joint committee be formed consisting of the Committee on Health and Human Relations and the Committee on Economic, Capital and Technology Development be formed.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this joint committee be tasked with developing a witness list of companies that provide such products and services, drafting and extending invitations to them to testify, and expeditiously holding one or more public hearings for their review and evaluation.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this joint committee make budget recommendations and draft any legislation deemed necessary as a result of testimony from these hearings.
