MEMORIAL RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE OF DOMINIC REFUGIO DELGADO (ZU)
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness we learn of the passing of Dominic Refugio Delgado, also known by his loved ones as "Zu"; and,
WHEREAS, While demonstrating great love and sacrifice for his country Mr. Delgado served in the Army as a Paratrooper in the 173rd Airborne Brigade during the Vietnam War where he was injured in a helicopter attack; and,
WHEREAS, He attended Central Missouri State University and Northern Illinois University where he expanded his love for reading and history; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Delgado used his years of experience to enter the structural steel industry as proud member of Iron Workers Local 1, where he would later be motivated to take out a home-equity loan and use his personal savings to start his own steel erecting company in 1985, called, "Delgado Erectors Inc."; and,
WHEREAS, His determination to change construction opportunities for both Hispanic men and women led to his commitment in advocacy for strong representation in the profession; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Delgado served twice as the President of the Hispanic American Construction Industry Association (HACIA), an organization working to ensure equitable participation of its members in the construction industry; and,
WHEREAS, He was a staunch Chicagoan, leaving an iconic mark on Chicago's landscape through his work as a Local 1 Ironworker and Hispanic business owner, with contributions to several projects including: Michigan Avenue Bridge, Wells Street Bridge over Wacker Drive, including many others bridges across Chicagoland, O'Hare International Terminal, McCormick Place West Expansion, Wilis Tower "Sears Tower", John Hancock, Northwestern Prentice Hospital, and many others; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Delgado left this world proud of his accomplishments as a husband, father, grandfather, business owner, and Soldier, and forever paved the bridge for the next generation of Hispanic con...
