, Sharon Austell is officially announcing her retirement from the City of Chicago after 33 years of dedicated service: and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this joyous occasion by the Honorable Anna M. Valencia, City Clerk; and


WHEREAS, Sharon Austell was raised on the South Side of Chicago and graduated from Percy L. Julian High School in the Washington Heights neighborhood; and

WHEREAS, Sharon Austell's career with the City of Chicago began on April 18, 1988 at the Department of Cable Communications and from April 1992 until August 1998, Sharon worked for the Police Department Bomb and Arson Section as the Principal Typist; and
WHEREAS, Sharon's tenure in the City Clerk's Office began in September of 1998 as the Personal Computer Operator II within the City Clerk's Council Division; and,

WHEREAS. During her service with the City Council Division under four City Clerks, Sharon Austell helped prepare the Journal of the Proceedings of the City Council of the City of Chicago and has been an exemplary employee who has earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues; and

WHEREAS, An invaluable and dedicated team member, Sharon Austell was frequently called upon to work late evenings and weekends to ensure that the office faithfully fulfilled its legally mandated responsibility as the official record-keeper for the Chicago City Council; and

WHEREAS, Sharon Austell looks forward to sharing her retirement with her friends and family, sisters, Debra Vaughn and Terrie Austell, brother, Dwayne Austell, as well as her niece, Raven Austell and nephew, Jaeden T. Fields; and

WHEREAS, While serving whh the Office ofthe City Clerk, Sharon has built many lasting friendships; and although she will be sorely missed, her retirement will give her more time to spend exploring the wonderful restaurants Chicagoland has to offer and visiting new and exciting destinations in the United States and abroad; now, therefore,
