Ladies and Gentlemen:
I transmit herewith, together with Aldermen O'Shea, King, Lee, Cardenas, Maldonado, Ervin, Waguespack, Ramirez-Rosa, Nugent, Smith and Tunney, an ordinance amending the Municipal Code of Chicago relating to redistricting of the fifty wards ofthe City of Chicago.

ORDINANCE
WHEREAS, Article VII, Section 6(a) of the Constitution of the State of Illinois provides that a home rule unit of government may exercise any power and perform any function relating to its government and affairs; and
WHEREAS, The City of Chicago, having a population in excess of twenty-five thousand (25,000) is a home rule unit; and
WHEREAS, The redistricting of the wards of the City of Chicago is a matter relating to the government and affairs of the City: and
WHEREAS, Pursuant to Section 21-38 ofthe Revised Cities and Villages Act of 1941, codified at 65 ILCS 20-21/38, the City Council shall, by ordinance, redistrict the City of Chicago on the basis of the national census of the preceding year; now, therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO:
SECTION 1. Chapter 2-8 of the Municipal Code ofthe City of Chicago is hereby amended by deleting therefrom Sections 2-8-300 through 2-8-810 and substituting therefor new Sections 2-8-300 through 2-8-810, as follows:
2-8-300 Wards Created - Basis - Redistricting.
The City is hereby divided into 50 wards and redistricted as provided in this Chapter.
