RESOLUTION HONORING THE RETIREMENT OF ANDREA J. SCHWARTZ
WHEREAS, Andrea Schwartz retired from her position as Senior Director of External Communications for Macy's, Inc. on March 31, 2022, following a lifetime of service to her community; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this milestone by the Honorable Brain Hopkins, Alderman ofthe 2nd Ward; and
WHEREAS, Andrea began working for Marshall Fields Department Store in 1997 in Public Relations and Government Affairs, and when Macy's acquired Marshall Fields in 2005, Andrea oversaw the change of nameplates and signage and had the tough job of winning over Chicagoans who took pride in the Marshall Fields name; and

WHEREAS, Andrea worked for several years as Vice President of Media Relations and Cause Marketing for Macy's and lobbied and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local foundations, including After School Matters, Chicago Public Library Foundation, Ronald McDonald Children's Charities, Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, Sundays on State, Chicago Loop Alliance, Grant Park Music Festival, Goodman Theatre, Joffrey Ballet, Steppenwolf Theater, and The Art Institute of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, With Macy's support, Andrea founded and oversaw the Chicago Fashion Incubator, a non-profit organization that provides emerging Chicago-based designers in residence with the resources, business acumen, and mentoring to launch their careers in fashion; and
WHEREAS, Andrea fought hard to preserve and promote Marshall Field's traditions under the Macy's umbrella, such as the Great Tree Lighting at the Walnut Room and the State Street Holiday Windows; and
WHEREAS, When Andrea was promoted to Senior Director of External Communications for Macy's Inc. where she oversaw 500 stores across the country, she was able to maintain her team of Public Relations professionals in Chicago resisting relocation to New York; and
