ORDINANCE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO:

 

SECTION 1. Chapter 2-152 of the Municipal Code of the City of Chicago is hereby amended by inserting the new Section 2-152-175, as follows:

2-152-175 Days off for Chicago Police Department employees.

(a)                     At least 48 hours prior to issuing any order cancelling any requested or regularly scheduled
day off of any employee within a department, the commissioner or chief officer of such department
shall offer all employees of the same classification as the employee whose requested or regularly
scheduled day off is to be cancelled, the ability to voluntarily sign up to work the days and hours
of the employee whose day off is to be cancelled. Any employee who signs up to work such days
and hours shall be compensated at a rate of 2.5 times their regular rate of pay.

 

(b)                     Any employee in any department whose requested or regularly scheduled day off is
cancelled, shall be compensated at a rate of 2 times their regular rate of pay for each hour such
employee works during such employee's cancelled day off.

(c)                     Any supervisor who denies an employee's written request to have such employee's regular
day off honored, shall provide such employee, in writing, a response as to why such employee's
written request is denied. If applicable, such employee may provide, to their respective collective
bargaining unit, such supervisor's written response. If such employee elects to provide such
supervisor's written response to such employee's collective bargaining unit, such employee shall
not be subject to any reprimand, discharge, suspension, demotion, or denial of promotion or
transfer, as a result of providing such response to such collective bargaining unit.

SECTION 2. Section 10-8-335 of the Municipal Code of the City of Chicago is hereby amended by inserting the language underscored, as follows:

10-8-335 Outdoor special events.

(a) As used in this section unless the context requires otherwise:

(6) "Regularly scheduled day off means anv day a regular full-time employee is not scheduled to work.

(e) The Department will issue a permit for the special event, or a conditional permit pursuant to subsection (f), if, after considering any relevant written recommendations or objections of the appropriate alderman and city departments, it determines that:

(4) There are available at the time of the special event a sufficient number of peace officers to police and protect lawful participants in the event and the Department of Police does not have to cancel anv peace officer's regularly scheduled day off to ensure such event has a sufficient number of peace officers;
