RESOLUTION HONORING OFFICER DANIEL P. GOLDEN OF THE CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT


WHEREAS, On the morning of July 9, 2022, Officer Daniel P. Golden of the Chicago Police Department suffered a life-altering injury after helping break up a fight while off-duty; and

WHEREAS, A third generation member of CPD Officer Golden has been a member of CPD for six years, most recently serving as a member of the Gang Unit; and

WHEREAS, A son of a CPD Detective and an ER nurse, and an honorable United States Army Veteran amongst four of his brothers, who are United States Army Veterans along with their youngest brother enlisting in the Army; and

WHEREAS, Officer Golden was out enjoying a night with friends and family after supporting in the neighborhood's charity Papa Hops 16" Softball Tournament when a fight broke out; and
WHEREAS, While Officer Golden was not involved in the fight, he intervened to break up the fight; however, when it appeared that the altercation had passed, over 20 shots were fired into the crowd, and Officer Golden was shot in the back while walking away; and
WHEREAS, Officer Golden answered the call to service even while off-duty and felt that it was his duty to protect the public and try to stop the fight; and
WHEREAS, Officer Golden has devoted his life to public service to the people of the City of Chicago, personally safeguarding the health and safety of the City and its residents; and

WHEREAS, Dedication to and fulfillment of the motto of the Chicago Police Department - "We Serve and Protect" - exacts a substantial physical and emotional toll not only on the officers who must daily cope with the stress and danger of putting their lives on the line for countless City residents; Officer Golden is the embodiment of that motto; and
