BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO:

SECTION 1. Section 2-8 ofthe Municipal Code of Chicago is hereby amended by inserting the language underscored, and by deleting the language struck through, as follows:

2-8-300 Wards created - Basis - Redistricting.

The City is hereby divided into 50 wards and redistricted as provided in this Chapter, and following the 2030 United States Census, shall be reduced to 25 wards.

In the year following the national decennial census, the City Council shall redistrict the City on the basis of such census. In the formation of wards in such redistricting following the 2030 United States Census, as nearly as practicable, each ward shall be an independent map commission shall create compact, contiguous, and of substantially equal population with an acceptable deviation to respect established communities of interest or to achieve other legally valid and permissible objectives. This provision shall be subject to Section 21-39 ofthe Revised Cities and Villages Act.

SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon passage and publication.
