ORDINANCE
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OFTHE CITY OF CHICAGO:
SECTION 1. Chapter 13-96 of the Municipal Code of Chicago is hereby amended by adding the language underscored, and by deleting the language struck through, as follows:
ARTICLE IV. RESERVED OUTDOOR MAILBOXES AND CLUSTER BOXES (13-96-120 et
seq:)
13-96-120 Rcsorvodr Outdoor mailboxes requirements; ban on cluster boxes.
(aV Anv building that contains eight or more secondary address unit designations shall place all mailboxes, as that term is defined in Chapter 14B-2, located on the premises in an enclosed portion of the premises. Such enclosure must, at a minimum, provide reasonable protection from the weather, adequate nighttime lighting, and reasonable protection against the theft of mail, packages, or other deliveries. Anv building that contains 50 or more secondary address unit designations shall place all mailboxes in a separate secured room or enclosed space on the premises. The owner, manager, or other person in charge-of the building or parcel of property with a building subject to this Subsection (a) shall ensure that all existing mailboxes come into compliance With this subsection (a) no later than October 15. 2023.
(b) Exterior cluster mailboxes are prohibited for any building that contains eight or more
secondary address unit designations. The owner, manager, or other person in charge of the
building or parcel of property with a building that contain eight or more secondary address unit
designations shall remove anv existing cluster mailboxes no later than October 15.2023.
(c) Any person who violates.this chapter shall be subject to a fine of not less than $50.00 nor
more than $100.00.for each offense. A separate and distinct offense is committed, for each
mailbox that is not in compliance, and each.day-that a violation continues.
