Chicago City Council October 26, 2022
Referred to the Committee on Budget and Government Operations

WHEREAS, In 2016, the City of Chicago (City) established the first Chicago Veterans Affairs Office committed to providing critical support to Veterans and their families; and
WHEREAS, Since then, similarly-sized cities, like Boston and New York, have demonstrated significant prioritization of Veteran advocacy, successfully leading to the expansion and financial investment of citywide resources, policy change, and intergovernmental assistance within their mayoral offices; and
WHEREAS, According to the most recent U.S. Census findings, there are nearly 68,000 Veterans throughout Chicago-an undeniable influence impacting the City that would likely quadruple with the inclusion of their family members; and
WHEREAS, Veterans currently lack equitable representation and budgeted commitments by the City indicating their efforts are not merely symbolic, but instead, ah intentional priority to reestablish vital partnerships; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago Office of Veterans Affairs is reestablished by the City of Chicago within the Mayor's Office to connect, inform, and empower Chicago Veterans and their family members; and now, therefore,
