RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, JANE MOY, was born at Jackson Park Hospital, and was raised by her parents as an only child in the back of a restaurant on 55th Street that her parents owned;

WHEREAS, Jane married Larry Moy (who preceded her in death) and together they raised three daughters and one son, as she always felt that Hyde Park was a great place to raise a family;

WHEREAS, one of Jane's daughters is a Teacher of deaf students, one is a Public Service Worker, another is a Commercial Real Estate Professional, and her son is in the Airline Industry;

WHEREAS, Jane also has a granddaughter who studied at the world renown Bolshoi Academy located in Moscow, which is one ofthe oldest and most prestigious ballet schools in the world, and a grandson who was recruited to play basketball by a major college;

WHEREAS, Jane and Larry purchased a Winnebago to take their children across the United States and Canada so that they could visit many historical places and national parks; they also traveled to China, Europe, and Buckingham Palace;

WHEREAS, in 1967, Jane and Larry opened the Far East Kitchen at 1654 E. 53rd Street, which was famous for its Hong Kong Steak and various dishes made with duck. Over the years, the Moys served many celebrities and elected officials, such as: Diahann Carroll, Arthur Greenberg, Leon Despres, Toni Preckwinkle, and Carol Mosely Braun;

WHEREAS, whenever the late Mayor Harold Washington returned from the Illinois House of Representative on Fridays, he would visit the Far East Kitchen and order the Hong Kong Steak where he always sat at the family's table while he read the newspaper; even after becoming Mayor, he would send someone to pick up his order;

WHEREAS, in 1986, the Far East Kitchen moved to 1509 E. 53rd Street where it remained until after Jane and Larry retired in 2005;

WHEREAS, entrepreneurship has always been a part of Jane's DNA, as she was taught to have a very strong work ethic - sometimes working 15 hours a day, 7 days a week;

WHEREAS, after opening the restaurant, Jane and Larry began to purchase other commercial properties along the 53rd Street corridor, further establishing their roots in Hyde Park;

WHEREAS, sixty years later, Jane Moy still has commercial properties on 53rd Street and is heavily involved in the local Hyde Park community. She is a living legacy and is greatly appreciated for her contributions to Hyde Park;

WHEREAS, Jane has been a member of Jackson Park Advisory Council since 1983 and has been President ofthe Council since 2010;

 

NOW THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED that we, the Mayor and Members ofthe City Council ofthe City of Chicago, assembled this 12th day of October, 2022, do hereby honor the service of JANE MOY, and extend our sincere congratulations for her service to the community, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that suitable copies ofthis Resolution be presented to JANE MOY as a sign of our good wishes.
