I transmit herewith, together with Aldermen Sposato, Nugent, Vasquez, O'Shea, Scott, Tunney, Rodriguez, Villegas, Silverstein, Waguespack, Osterman, Cappleman, Dowell, Moore, Brookins, Mitts, Hadden, Hairston, Gardiner, Lee and King, a resolution honoring long-time City employee Barton Moy on the occasion of his retirement.

RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, In recognition of his leadership and appreciation of his tireless work improving the City of Chicago through his work with numerous divisions of City government, including the Chicago Police Department, the Advisory Council on Asian Affairs, and the Office of the Mayor, the Members of this Chamber are pleased to congratulate Barton Moy, on the occasion of his retirement in August 2022; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1989, Barton Moy was appointed by Mayor Daley to serve as the Director of the Advisory Council on Asian Affairs after many years working with the Vietnamese Association of Illinois as the Coordinator for Economic Development and also as a Baskin-Robbins franchise owner; and

 

WHEREAS, Barton Moy served as an area coordinator with the Chicago Police Department's Office of Community Policing from 2000 to 2020, receiving a Special Commendation Award in 2017 from Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson for outstanding public service which significantly impacts public safety and crime prevention; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Moy's efforts in organizing outreach led to the arrest of a serial rapist, efforts honored by Superintendent Hilliard; and

 

WHEREAS, Barton Moy served the City as Community Engagement Manager in the Mayor's office between 2020 and 2022; and

 

WHEREAS, Barton Moy has touched the lives of countless Chicagoans all across the City through his various roles and as a member of boards and advisory councils such as the Chicago Children's Museum, Advancing Justice Chicago, Asian American Institute, Chinese Mutual Aid Association, James Jordan Foundation, James Jordan Boys and Girls Club, and Chicago Asian Advisory Council for the Illinois States' Attorney and Governor; and

 

WHEREAS, As the proud son of Chinese immigrants, Mr. Moy has served as a trusted and beloved liaison to Chicago's Chinese American community, as well as other Asian and Pacific Islander communities in our City, and has received the Community Impact Award from the Chinese Mutual Aid Association; and

 

WHEREAS, Barton Moy's service to our City and the communities within it has been invaluable; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this twenty-six day of October 2022, do hereby congratulate Barton Moy on the occasion of his retirement; express to him our heartfelt gratitude for his exemplary service to the residents of our great City; and extend to him our best wishes for continued health, happiness, prosperity, and success; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Barton Moy as a sign of our appreciation and esteem.
