In Memory of Lloyd S. Newman

Whereas Lloyd S. Newman was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend who passed away on Wednesday, December 7th, 2022 in Elmhurst Memorial Hospital; and,

Whereas, the Chicago City Council has been informed of Lloyd Newman's passing by Alderman Sophia King, Alderwoman ofthe 4th ward; and,

Whereas, Lloyd Newman was born on March 3, 1978 in Chicago, Illinois to Lynn Newman and Michael Murry, and was affectionately known as "BooBoo" to his family, friends, and the Low End community; and,

Whereas, Lloyd Newman was a bodacious and loving person who grew up on the south side of Chicago, and exemplified what it means to persevere; and,

Whereas, Lloyd Newman attended Donahue Elementary School and graduated from Future Commons Technical Prep High School, and later attended HBCU Langston University; and,

Whereas, Lloyd Newman believed that "anything you do in life, takes the right kind of mindset," and did not allow his battle with Sickle Cell define him or set limitations to his life, showing true strength that is admirable and unique; and,

Whereas, Lloyd Newman spent the last few years of his life working at the Dekalb Public Library, where he said "It didn't feel like a job, but something to be a part of...a service that needed to be provided to the community,"; and,

Whereas, Lloyd Newman leaves behind a rich legacy of accomplishment and service, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him; and,

Now, therefore, be it resolved That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this day the Eighteenth of January, 2023, do hereby honor the life of Lloyd; and
