Celebrating the Retirement of Network 2 Chief Mauricio Segovia

 

WHEREAS, Mauricio Segovia moved to the United States in the early 90's with his wife and daughter from Chile and settled in Chicago where he began working for Chicago Public Schools in 1993; and,

 

WHEREAS, he was a CPS teacher from 1993-2004 and was promoted to a citywide math coach from 2004-2007; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Segovia served as Assistant Principal at Enrico Tonti Elementary School in the Chicago Lawn Neighborhood from 2007-2009 and was Principal of Charles Darwin Elementary School from 2009-2019; and,

 

WHEREAS, while serving as principal at Charles Darwin Elementary School he created the Vision "Where Leaders Are Grown," that they still use to this day, started the Dual Language Program, achieved Independent School Principal Status, and was a finalist for the Stanley C. Golder Golden Apple Award; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Segovia served as Chief of Schools for Network 2 from 2019 until 2023 supporting the Far North and Northeast side of Chicago which is home to 21 schools, 12,000 students, and is the most diverse network in CPS with students speaking over 110 different languages; and,

 

WHEREAS, Chief Segovia retires on Friday, January 27th after a career of service to Chicago Public Schools and its students, families, faculty and staff; and,

 

BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor, and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, honor the service of Mauricio Segovia to Chicago Public Schools and celebrate his retirement.

 

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy ofthis Resolution be presented to Mauricio Segovia as recognition of his service.
