CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO GERTRUDE LOCKETT ON CELEBRATING
HER 90TH BIRTHDAY

WHEREAS, We, the City Council ofthe City of Chicago, wish to extend our congratulations and warmest birthday wishes to Gertrude Lockett in honor of her 90th birthday; and
WHEREAS, On behalf of the entire 16th Ward, Alderman Stephanie D. Coleman would like to extend her personal tribute to Gertrude on this momentous occasion as recognition for being a stellar resident of the City of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Gertrude was born in Chicago on January 9, 1933, and attended Englewood High School before graduating from Chicago State University; and
WHEREAS, A member of St. John Baptist Church under pastor Rev. Dr. Edward A. Davis, Gertrude is resolute in her faith, recognizing her help comes from God and praying daily for His guidance; and
WHEREAS, Gertrude has been a caregiver at heart her entire life, as the oldest of five living siblings, the mother of two, grandmother of five, and great-grandmother of four; and
WHEREAS, Her care extends well beyond her family; the original owner and director of the Gingerbread House Daycare Center on the City's far South Side, Gertrude also served generations of students in the Chicago Public School System and other educational programs, including Garrett A. Morgan Elementary, Christian Fenger Academy, Currie H.S., University of Illinois Chicago (TRIO), International Exchange Chicago/France, and Emmanuel Christian School; and
WHEREAS, For over 35 years, Gertrude dedicated her life to educating and nurturing future generations, serving with determination and vigor, and leaving an indelible impact on the lives and hearts of over 100,000 students and staff across the length and breadth ofthe Chicagoland area; now, therefore
