RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, the Members of this Chamber are pleased to congratulate Sensei Jerry Weiss and Gen-Ki Karate on the occasion of his 50th Anniversary; and

WHEREAS, the Chicago City Council has been informed ofthis Anniversary by the Honorable James M. Gardiner, Alderman ofthe 45th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Sensei Weiss started teaching for Gen-Ki Karate systems in 1972 and took over ownership ofthe location at 5756 N. Milwaukee Avenue; and

WHEREAS, Sensei Weiss was formerly a Representative for the Professional Karate League and the Vice President ofthe American Karate Association; and

WHEREAS, Sensei Weiss was the past National Black Belt League Arbitrator and Commissioner;

and

WHEREAS, Sensei Weiss was a past member of both the Jefferson Park Chamber of Commerce and Gladstone Park Chamber of Commerce;

WHEREAS, Sensei Weiss was a member ofthe Chuck Norn's' Kick Drugs Out of America Program,

and

WHEREAS, Sensei. Weiss was the Editor of "Parents Corner" magazine; and

WHEREAS, Sensei Weiss was the Co-Founder of Protect and Control Tactics; and

WHEREAS, Sensei Weiss is the Training Director for Illinois State Crime Commission; and

WHEREAS, Sensei Weiss is a member of the Black Belt Schools for America; and

WHEREAS, Sensei Weiss is the current president of Martial Arts Karate Association; and

WHEREAS, The benefits of karate are limitless and no one is too old to practice and train; and

WHEREAS, many Gen-Ki students have become national champions; and

WHEREAS, For decades Gen-Ki Karate and Sensei Weiss have been a staple in Gladstone Park and an inspiration for people throughout the Chicagoland area. Sensei Weiss is a person of great dedication and wisdom who has taught his students physical fitness, discipline, self-confidence, better concentration, and character development, while learning self-defense; and

BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and the members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this 18th day of January, 2023, do hereby congratulate Sensei Jerry Weiss and Gen-Ki Karate for his 50th Anniversary and wish him many more years of success; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy ofthis resolution be prepared and presented to Sensei Jerry Weiss.
