I transmit along with Alderman Moore and together with Aldermen Burke, Ramirez-Rosa, Ervin, Waguespack, Sposato, Villegas, Gardiner, Mitts, Brookins, Osterman, Rodriguez, Vasquez, Hadden, Sadlowski Garza, Coleman, O'Shea and Martin, a resolution honoring school athletic teams in Chicago.

RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, Each year high school football teams across the City compete for the IHSA state football championship and the Chicago Public League championship; and

 

WHEREAS, Football helps students develop discipline, a strong work ethic, teamwork, mental and physical toughness; and

 

WHEREAS, Mount Carmel High School won the 2022 IHSA 7A Illinois State football championship and Simeon Career Academy won the 2022 Chicago Public League football championship; and

 

WHEREAS, The Mount Carmel Caravan defeated Batavia High School 44-20 at Memorial Stadium in Champaign, Illinois; and

 

WHEREAS, Mount Carmel's championship capped off an undefeated 14-0 perfect season; and

 

WHEREAS, Mount Carmel held the top ranking in the Sun-Times Super 25 wire-to-wire from the preseason through the final game of the year; and

 

WHEREAS, The Simeon Wolverines bested Taft High School 38-34 at Gately Stadium to win the Chicago Public League Championship and the right to play in the Chicago Prep Bowl; and

 

WHEREAS, Simeon beat Fenwick High School 33-30 to win the Chicago Prep Bowl; and

WHEREAS, Simeon finished the season with an impressive 12-1 record; and

WHEREAS, Mount Carmel, Simeon, and all of Chicago's high school football teams help students overcome adversity, learn the importance of determination, perseverance, and camaraderie; and

 

WHEREAS, The Members of this Chamber are pleased to congratulate all of the members and coaches of Mount Carmel's and Simeon's football teams on their well-earned championship titles; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled here this eighteenth day of January, 2023, do hereby applaud and congratulate all of these students on their championship performances; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Mount Carmel High School and Simeon Career Academy as a token of our respect and of our best wishes for a bright and prosperous future.
