TRIBUTE TO EUGENE WRIGHT LYMAN

 

WHEREAS, in His infinite wisdom, almighty God has granted eternal peace to his faithful servant Eugene Wright Lyman, an outstanding citizen and exemplary member of his community, on December 1, 2022; and

 

WHEREAS Eugene Lyman started life on August 18, 1935, as the only son born to the union of Frank H. and Hazel M. Lyman who, together with his sister, Francis Wolcott, have proceeded him in passing; and

WHEREAS Eugene graduated from Wabash College, a private men's liberal arts institution located in Crawfordsville, Indiana whose mission is to educate men to think critically, act responsibly, lead effectively, and live humanely. Gene adopted these principals as his own and adhered them throughout his eighty-eight years. From there he matriculated to Harvard Business School in Boston, Massachusetts and afterward spent his entire adult life as the president of E.W. Lyman Associates, his own firm that specialized in corporate public relations. In August of 1984, he expanded his business by becoming a licensed real estate broker; and

 

WHEREAS the nature of Eugene Lyman's business allowed him the liberty to exercise the precepts he learned in college and become very active in civic and community affairs. He served as president and board member of the prestigious Publicity Club of Chicago. He was a board member of the Uptown Chicago Commission as well as served as president, treasurer, and board member of South Andersonville Neighbors, Winamac Block Club, and east Ravenswood Neighborhood Association. He was past president and board member of Lakeview-Ravenswood Historical Association and the Truman College Council; and

 

WHEREAS Eugene Lyman was also an active participant in his community's religious affairs. He served as a board member and past president of the Chicago Bible Society, an almost 200-year-old non-profit, non-denominational ministry that works to provide universal access to the Bible as well as a devoted member of the historic Ravenswood Presbyterian Church. It is there on January 4, 2023, that a celebration of his life was held; and

 

WHEREAS Eugene leaves behind to mourn his loss and cherish his memory his sister, Stella Taute of New Albany, Indiana, three nieces, Marie Weber of Appleton, Wisconsin, Judy Lowe of Memphis, Indiana, and Ellen Smith also of New Albany, Indiana, their families, and a host of friends whose lives he has touched throughout the years; and; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Roderick Sawyer, Alderman of the 6,h Ward, has informed this august body of the passing of such a kind, caring, and concerned citizen of this city: now therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED that we, the mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered here this 1st day of February 2023 AD, do hereby express our sincere sorrow upon the passing of Eugene Wright Lyman and extend our deepest condolences to his family and many friends.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy ofthis resolution be prepared and presented to Stella Taute.
