Proclamation: Raven Theatre

 

 

WHEREAS, The members of the City Council of Chicago wish to recognize the many accomplishments and the 40th anniversary of Raven Theatre; and

WHEREAS, The Raven Theatre is celebrating its ruby jubilee throughout 2023; and

WHEREAS, The City Council has been notified of this celebration by The Honorable Harry Osterman, Alderman of the 48th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Raven Theatre was founded in 1983, and joined the Edgewater community at its current Clark Street location in 2002; and

WHEREAS, Since its founding, Raven has staged 106 productions and showcased the work of hundreds of artists to thousands of audience members, garnering 110 Jeff Awards Nominations and winning 28 Jeff Awards; and

WHEREAS, Raven Theatre has coordinated theatrical educational opportunities for countless children in the Edgewater community through its in-school residency and summer camp programs; and

WHEREAS, The presence of Raven in the Edgewater has also allowed for the theater's space to support smaller theatre companies, expanding the impact of Raven as they look for ways to support our community; and

WHEREAS, The focus on art, education, and community by the team at Raven Theatre has enhanced the arts community in Edgewater and continues to be a vibrant and meaningful cultural space in Chicago; and

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members ofthe City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this day of February 1 st, 2023, do hereby extend our congratulations on the 40th anniversary of the opening of Raven Theatre, and extend to the performers and artists involved at the Raven Theatre our best wishes for a meaningful and joyous celebration; and

 

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies ofthis resolution be printed to the leadership of the Raven Theatre as a token of our congratulations.
