A RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE OF CHAE "JAY" KIM
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that the members of this Chamber have been informed of the passing of Chae "Jay" Kim on Sunday, February 19, 2023; and
WHEREAS, Jay was a beloved husband and successful Bronzeville businessman; and
WHEREAS, Jay achieved the American dream, opening up J J Beauty on the corner of 47th St. and Calumet Ave. in the 3rd Ward over 20 years ago; and
WHEREAS, JJ Beauty continues to operate as a strong and successful business on the 47th St. commercial corridor, catering to all the fashion and health needs of residents; and
WHEREAS, Jay cultivated a warm and welcoming business for staff and residents, which came from his dedication, appreciation, and service to the community; and
WHEREAS, That is because Jay himself was more than a business owner, there was not a community cause he would not support if asked; and
WHEREAS, In traditionally underserved communities like on 47th St., the support of strong and committed business owners like Jay Kim are the platform on which the City can build vibrant and successful neighborhoods; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here in assembly this 15th Day of March, 2023 A.D., do hereby extend our condolences to the family and friends of Chae "Jay" Kim; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Chae "Jay" Kim.
