RESOLUTION HONORING THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF TARPEY'S PHARMACY
WHEREAS, Longtime Sauganash business Tarpey's Pharmacy is celebrating its 50th anniversary in May 2023; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this milestone by the Honorable Samantha Nugent, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, A local, family-owned business, Tarpey's Pharmacy was opened by Robert Tarpey in 1973, who operated the business until his passing in 1987, when his wife Carole took over, who in turn passed the torch to their son Patrick in 2007; and
WHEREAS, From parents picking up prescriptions with their kids to quick pop-ins for snacks and candy, Tarpey's has served the Sauganash and Edgebrook communities from their original location on the Northeast corner of W. Peterson Ave. until the store moved across the street to the Edens View Office Plaza in 2009 located on the Southeast corner of W. Peterson Ave. and N. Cicero Ave.; and
WHEREAS, In 2020, as the world sheltered in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Tarpey's Pharmacy remained open as an essential business, ensuring that its customers had access to the medicines they needed; and
WHEREAS, With a focus on personalized service and a staff that knows most customers by name, Tarpey's is a 39th Ward institution, attracting lifelong customers including children who grew up shopping there with their parents who themselves become loyal customers when they move back to the neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the years, Tarpey's Pharmacy has served generations of residents in Sauganash and Edgebrook, and we look forward to another 50 years of vibrant business; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this thirty-first day of May, 2023, do hereby congratulate the Tarpey family on the 50th anniversary of Tarpey's Pharmacy; and
