TRIBUTE TO ERWIN J. KORCZYNSKI
WHEREAS, Almighty God, in His Infinite Wisdom has ended the suffering of Erwin J. Korczynski and granted him eternal peace on January 5, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Erwin J. Korczynski, an outstanding military serviceman, wartime pilot and member of his community, has led an exemplary and extraordinary life of committed service to his country; and
WHEREAS, Erwin J. Korczynski was a Lane Technical High School Class of 1960 graduate. He attended Northern Illinois University until his education was interrupted due to the Vietnam War. In 1963, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was attached to the Marine Attach Squadron, VMA 131. He attained the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged from active duty on December 1, 1969; and
WHEREAS, Erwin J. Korczynski also completed 25 missions for the Civilian Reserve Air Fleet/Military Airlift Command as a commanding pilot during the Desert Shield/ Desert Storm operations; and
WHEREAS, Erwin J. Korczynski leaves behind, to mourn his loss and celebrate his heroism, his wife Henrietta, daughters Elizabeth J. Liggett and Kiersten, as well as sons Ryan and Christian; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Richard F. Mell, Alderman of the 33rd Ward, has informed the council of the passing of this the noteworthy man; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED; That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, assembled on this 13th Day of January AD, do hereby express our sincere sorrow at the passing of Erwin J. Korczynski, salute his unparalleled service to his country and extend our deepest sympathies to his twin brother Edwin J. Korczynski as well as his family, friends and all those whose lives he touched.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Erwin J. Korczynski.
