A TRIBUTE TO THE LATE INEZ FRAZIER
WHEREAS, Almighty God in His infinite wisdom and judgment has called Inez Frazier, outstanding citizen, cherished mother, and beloved friend, from this life to eternity; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Joseph A. Moore, Alderman of the 49th Ward; the Honorable Vi Daley, Alderman of the 43rd Ward; and the Honorable Walter Burnett, Alderman of the 27th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Inez Frazier was deeply devoted to her family, raising 11 children: 5 girls (Barbara, Wendy, Antoinette, Pamela, and Vivian) and 6 boys (Gregory, Robert Earl, Thomas, Wayne, Gerald, and Donald), and in addition was blessed with 44 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Inez was born on June 26th, 1919, in Abbeville, South Carolina, the youngest child of Jessie Wideman, a former slave who became an ordained African Methodist Minister, and of Josephine Martin, a homemaker and education advocate; and she lived in New York and New Jersey before moving to Chicago in 1943; and
WHEREAS, Inez found a home at Saint Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church on December 8,1972, watched many in her family graduate from the Saint Luke School, and founded the Black History Program at the church; and
WHEREAS, believing in a strong democratic government, Inez was involved in voter registration and elections since the 1950s; and later assured that senior citizens had access and information for voting, culminating in her selection as a participant in the 1990 Conference on Aging in Springfield, Illinois; and
WHEREAS, Inez volunteered throughout her community, as chair of the 18th District Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS) program; as counselor and tutor at the Ferguson Child-Parent Education Center, the Newberry Elementary School, and Saint Vincent DePaul; and within the 2111 N. Halsted Senior Citizen Building; and
WHEREAS, Inez will be greatly missed, but the memory of her characte...
