WHEREAS, United States Representative Bobby L. Rush was re-elected to his tenth term representing the First Congressional District of Illinois on November 2, 2010; and

WHEREAS, prior to his election to Congress, Rep. Rush served as a member of the Chicago City Council representing the 2nd Ward from 1983-1993, during which time he also served as Chairman of the Council's Energy, Environmental Protection and Public Utilities Committee; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Rush has served as a member of the U. S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce since 1995; and

WHEREAS, in 2007, Rep. Rush was elected by his Democratic colleagues to serve as Chairman of the Committee on Energy and Commerce's Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade, and Consumer Protection, where he has led efforts to create greater consumer awareness and protections; provide more access to capital for minority businesses; increase protections for funeral and burial consumers; establish stronger oversight of the automobile industry and renewed attention to highway traffic and road safety, and promote greater safety in professional sports; and

WHEREAS, as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection, Rep. Rush has successfully helped guide more than a dozen bills out of the full House Energy and Commerce Committee - including two that became law, the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act and the Wall Street Reform Act.

WHEREAS, Rep. Rush also serves on the House Subcommittee on Communications, Technology and the Internet with jurisdiction over interstate and foreign telecommunications including, but not limited to all telecommunication and information transmission by broadcast, radio, wire, microwave, satellite, or other mode and on which he has served continuously since 1995; and

WHEREAS, in the upcoming 112th Congress, Rep. Rush is poised to become the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Communications, Technology and the Internet, which will allow him to continue to serve his district...
