Ladies and Gentlemen:
1 transmit herewith a resolution honoring the life and memory of Eugene Dengler. Your favorable consideration of this resolution will be appreciated.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Members of this Chamber were deeply saddened to learn of the passing on January 8, 2011, at age 77, of Eugene Dengler, Sr.; and
WHEREAS, Eugene Dengler, Sr. was born on April 15, 1933 in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, A long-time resident of Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood, Mr. Dengler was a member of the St. Jerome Parish; and
WHEREAS, Eugene Dengler, Sr. attended St. Anthony's grammar school and later graduated from St. Rita High School. He later attended the Wasburn trade school; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Dengler was married to his lovely wife, Emily, for fifty-one years; and
WHEREAS, Eugene Dengler, Sr. retired in 1998 after thirty-five years of faithful public service with the Chicago Department of Transportation, where he was General Superintendent of Construction in the Bureau of Bridges and Transit; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Dengler was a sixty-year member of the Carpenters Union Local number 13; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Dengler was a loyal member of the 11th ward Democratic party; and
WHEREAS, Among his many leisure activities, Mr. Dengler enjoyed horseback riding and watching his favorite baseball team on television: the Chicago White Sox. Also in his spare time, Mr. Dengler willingly applied his handyman skills to projects around the house, which his wife, Emily, appreciated; and
WHEREAS, Eugene Dengler, Sr. is survived by his loving wife, Emily; and by his devoted son and daughters, Eugene, Jr., Judy and Janet. He is the beloved grandfather of Alyssa, Dana Marie, Jennifer, Jill, Joy, Kristin and Michael. Mr. Dengler will be missed and cherished by many more relatives and friends; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this ninth day of February, 2011, do hereby honor the life and memory of Eugene Dengler, Sr., and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the family of Eugene Dengler, Sr. as a sign of our sympathy and good wishes.
