TO THE HONORABLE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO
Ladies and Gentlemen:
¦ 1 transmit herewith a resolution honoring the life and memory of Mary Ellen Devaney. Your favorable consideration of this resolution will be appreciated.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Members of this Chamber were deeply saddened to learn of the death on January 22, 2011, at age 72, of Mary Ellen Devaney; and
WHEREAS, Born in Chicago in 1938, Ms. Devaney grew up on the West Side of Chicago and graduated from Notre Dame High School for Girls in 1956; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Devaney lived on the Northwest Side of Chicago with her mother and uncle until she moved to Des Plaines in 1995; and
WHEREAS, A dedicated public servant, Ms. Devaney served the City of Chicago and its residents with diligence and distinction for more than three decades in the Corporation Counsel's and the Mayor's Offices; and
WHEREAS, Admired for her shorthand skills, capable personality, decorum, and professionalism, Ms. Devaney was an administrative assistant to Mayor Richard M. Daley for six years until her retirement in 1995; and
WHEREAS, In her distinguished career as the Mayor's administrative assistant, Ms. Devaney had the opportunity to come into contact with many renowned celebrities and prominent world leaders, including the late actress Audrey Hepburn and His Excellency Lech Walesa, Nobel Laureate and former President of Poland; and
WHEREAS, A loving aunt, cherished godmother, and dear friend of many, Ms. Devaney was known for her dedication, love, generosity and care for her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Although Ms. Devaney will be deariy missed, the impact of her kindness and many good deeds will continue to inspire others, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those who were privileged to know her; and
