RE:    Stop sign request at Hoyne Avenue and 69th Place
Dear Alderman Thomas:
The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) has reviewed your request for stop signs at the intersection of Hoyne Avenue and 69th Place.
Hoyne Avenue and 69lh Place are both residential streets with on-street parking. Hoyne Avenue is a one-way northbound street while 69th Place is a one-way westbound street that originates one block to the east at Damen Avenue and terminates one block to the west at Hamilton Avenue. The study intersection is currently uncontrolled. Hoyne Avenue is stop-controlled one block to the north and south at 69th Street and 70th Street, respectively. CDOT reviewed crash data from 2007 to 2009 and did not find any reported intersection-related crashes at the study intersection.
Given the residential nature of both streets, CDOT would not oppose the installation of stop signs at this intersection. Because 69th Place is the minor street spanning only two blocks, CDOT recommends stopping this approach. If this is something your office would like to pursue, please introduce the following ordinance language to City Council:
New Traffic Warning Sign
Stopping 69th PI. for Hoyne Ave. - "Two-Way Stop" sign
Please contact Luann Hamilton at (312)744-1987 if you have any additional questions or concerns.
Sincerely
