Alderman MaryAnn Smith 48th Ward Office 5533 N. Broadway Chicago, IL 60640 Attn: Ernie Constantino
Dear Alderman Smith,
We are writing to you today asking for a 15-minute standing zone in front of our restaurant. Our restaurant has been in the community for over 23 years. Although our restaurant's current location has only been open a little over a year, we have been quite successful in our transition. We do a very healthy dine-in and takeout crowd of customers who are in need of a space to leave their cars for a few minutes while they pick up their food or are dropping passengers off without the worry of receiving a ticket from the police. For that reason, we are asking for a 30-foot 15-minute standing zone with flashers only in front of the restaurant. We understand the traffic difficulties but we also do not wish for our customers to create a traffic hazard by illegally parking in front of the restaurant. We feel that this standing zone will relieve a lot of the issues our customers approach us with in regards to ticketing and the need for a space to just park for a few minutes to pick up or drop off. We are asking for operating hours of the standing zone to be between 8:30AM to 11:30PM Fridays through Wednesdays. Our FEIN is 36-3506246. If you should have any further questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to give me a call or email at the above information. Thank you so much for your prompt attention in this matter. We look forward to working with you to resolving this issue.
Sincerely,
Kelly Cheng General Manager

Re: Standing Zone Request for Sun Wah Barbeque Restaurant Dear Alderman Smith:
Thank you for contacting us regarding Sun Wah Barbeque Restaurant's request for a 15-minute standing zone in front of their establishment at 5039 N. Broadway. As Uptown's economic development community organization and Chamber of Commerce, we are in support of this proposal.
Sun Wah is a vibrant, attractive business that contributes significantly to the Uptown community and draws customers from across the city. The standing zone would allow their customers better access to the restaurant without removing any parking from the neighborhood and with only minimal effect on street traffic on Broadway.
Please contact us for any further information.
