SALUTE TO EDWIN J. "SKI" KORCZYNSKI
WHEREAS, Edwin J. "SKI" Korczynski is an outstanding citizen and member of his community; and
WHEREAS, Edwin Korczynski is Chicago born and bred and is proud of his Polish ancestry. He graduated from Henry D. Lloyd Elementary School, Lane Technical High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Northern Illinois University at DeKalb. He also earned a Bachelor of Aviation Management from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale; and
WHEREAS, Edwin Korczynski enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. serving in the 39th Officers Candidate Class of 1965 and stationed at Quantico, Virginia. He subsequently became a Commercial Airline Pilot and Flight Engineer flying for Eastern Airline, Midway Airlines, Tower Air, and America West Airlines, logging more than 16,000 hours and completing more than 20 world circles; and
WHEREAS, During the Desert Shield/Desert Storm military operation, Edwin Korczynski participated in the Civil Reserve Air Fleet (CRAF) / Military Airlift Command (MAC) operation, where civilian airliners were used for lift capability. Volunteering as a CRAF / MAC Pilot, Korczynski transported marines, medical battalions and supplies vital to the Kuwaiti liberation effort and was awarded the Civilian Desert Shield / Desert Storm Medal for distinguished service the Department of Defense on April 15, 1993; and
WHEREAS, Edwin J. "SKI" Korczynski's civilian volunteerism is well documented, well recognized and well known. His countless hours of service as a Disaster Assistant Team member earned him five "Special Recognition" Awards presented to him by the American Red Cross. He sponsored the formation of the Colonel Thomas Day Memorial Explorer Post #777, of the Boy/Explorer Scouts of America.
